Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It doesn't matter. It was actually a good race for me, I really just wish the chase had succeeded, we weren't that far back. We need to work together more cohesively at a team in these situations; a concerted team effort have brought that breakaway back. Gsteinb commented on this in his Twitter thread, he's 100% correct, I was also surprised at the lack of cohesion. I think we had the firepower today, but we weren't firing on all cylinders.

I'm in better shape than previous years. I feel I can help my team, and I'll lay it out there and try to do it again tomorrow, it's fun trying.

If you didn't get yelled at it wouldn't be the same anyway.
I got insulted today by a motorist who wasn't happy I passed her which I did because she was doing 20mph in a 25mph zone and I wanted to get my sprint on. She caught me at a light and told me I should be on the sidewalk to which I responded: "the state of NJ traffic laws disagree with your assessment, have a nice day."

That idiotic motorist utterance wouldn't have been worthy of a Pcad response.

You have what appears to be a good time racing your bike. Yet, your teammate seems to be absolutely miserable. Why does he continue to race for this team? Also, how long before his attitude rubs off on those of you that are actually having fun?

Half of that is standard Bike Racing Agnst. It's a tough sport and it can piss you off.

The flip side of days like today are days when all the cogs mesh and the team delivers. If g didn't love racing, he wouldn't do it 50-60 times a season. I'm also not sure any team on this level is consistently more reliable and cohesive more than ours. We have our days. g is certainly the fastest guy in that peloton, but there are some serious Human Lungs that attack in those races, and g won't make every break. We have solid VO2 Max firepower on our squad, we should have enough to bring a 3 man 20 second break back into line. I'd be frustrated with a day like today if I were him too.

Fair enough.

Granted, I am not saying this should be a group hug every weekend, by any stretch. But, a teammate, a co-worker, anyone, keeps dumping on me enough, they would soon be alone more often than not. Attempting to get the dynamics of all this racing stuff, in hopes of someday understanding it enough to give it another shot. I hope I am not overstepping.

I don't race but have ridden with fast groups and there's an attention to detail and group cohesion that has to be adhered to adamantly or you suffer the consequences, most of it is for good reason because everyone wants to be safe and get the most out of their ride.

are you high? I don't dump on any one. most of these guys are my friends. and the rest are there because they have a job to do. this is a sport. we're not in it for group hugs.

Thanks roadiegeorge. I can certainly agree with getting the most out of our rides. But, if it isn't something one looks forward to doing each chance one gets, then why bother?

Not high, nor did I say it was a group hug event, gsteinb. What I thought was dumping appears to be banter amongst friends. My mistake, and again, sorry if I have overstepped my bounds.

I know some of these guys almost 20 years. We did a bad job today. It doesn't happen often. And no one would say I'm anything but a gracious team leader.

You're still on ignore but you did a good job today. In the end we improved our position though we should dominate those races.

Just got back from a nice ride in the park.

73 degrees right now.

This calls for a celebration. I'm going to the store to get some donuts...
